Every summer, your fish suffer in silence.

During hot August nights, dissolved oxygen in your lake can fall below critical levels. Your fish come to the surface to breathe — and losses can occur without warning.

  • 🌡️
Summer thermocline traps cold water at the bottom

Warm surface water no longer mixes with cold bottom water — which becomes oxygen-depleted.

  • 💀
The anoxic bottom produces toxic gases

H₂S, methane — dangerous gases that accumulate in the silt and threaten your fish.

  • Remote sites are impossible to connect to mains power

Most fish lakes in rural France are far from any electrical supply.

⚠ Below 3 mg/L: your fish are in danger

The thermocline — your fish's invisible enemy.

In summer your lake divides into distinct layers that no longer mix. Explore the tabs below to understand why this is dangerous — and how AirLac fixes it.

Lake cross-section showing thermal stratification 25°C — warm thermocline 12°C — cold 8–10 mg/L O₂ sharp temp drop 0–2 mg/L O₂ H₂S · CH₄ epilimnion thermocline hypolimnion
Epilimnion (surface)
Warm, well-mixed by wind. Photosynthesis keeps DO high — 8–12 mg/L. Where fish spend most of their time.
Thermocline (boundary)
Temperature drops 4–8°C in just 30–50cm. Acts as an invisible lid — blocks oxygen from reaching the bottom.
Hypolimnion (bottom)
Cold, dark, oxygen-free. Bacteria produce toxic H₂S and methane. Fish avoid this zone entirely.
Why it matters
On hot August nights DO can crash from 9 mg/L at sunset to below 2 mg/L by 3am. The thermocline prevents any natural recovery.

How AirLac breaks the thermocline THERMOCLINE BROKEN DO rising cold water drawn up air hose UNIT
Breaking the thermocline
The AirLac diffuser sits below the thermocline. Rising micro-bubbles drag cold bottom water upward, physically breaking the boundary layer.
Oxygen throughout the water column
Once the thermocline is broken, oxygenated surface water mixes down — eliminating the dead zone at the bottom.
Toxic gas removal
The mixing also releases H₂S and methane from the bottom sediment safely into the atmosphere before they accumulate.
DO sensor placement
The AirLac probe floats mid-water — right at the critical boundary. It detects the earliest signs and triggers the pump before DO crashes.

Solar aeration that thinks for you.

Our system continuously monitors dissolved oxygen and temperature in your lake. It automatically triggers aeration when needed — even without sun, even at night.

AirLac solar aerator by the lake

Born in the field, designed for the field.

Phil a solar engineer, assisted Michelle and David in supplying full off-grid solar to their fishing lodge in the Charente region. After many conversations, and after observing the reality and issues of fish lake owners in the region, that the idea of AirLacSolaire was born. They put their combined knowledge of Fish lakes and Solar together to create a fully automatic DO aeration module running on solar power.

Phil brings solar energy expertise. David brings decades of Fish lake experience and more recently a Fish lake owner.

The Mark 2 prototype is currently being built (June 2026) with our first client — a fish lake owner 20km from us.
